Significance of Mahashivratri
Mahashivratri puja is conducted on 14th day of the dark fortnight in the auspicious Hindu month of Phalgun which falls on the no moon day in the month of Feb/March in English calendar every year. Though 14th day of the dark fortnight of every month as per Hindu calendar is known as monthly shivratri and shiv poojan is held. Persons interested in conducting monthly shiv puja are advised to start it from mahashivratri day and continue for full year.

What is Maha Shivratri?
Mahashivratri festival puja or maha shivaratri date is celebrated on the 14th day of the dark half of Phalgun month. Maha shivaratri also called as Shiva Chaudas. Shiva means shav and Chaudas – Fourteenth is a prominent day for shakti poojanam. Mahashivratri is the day allotted for the worship of Shiva & Shakti. Shiva chaudas represents spiritual enlightenment, which is blooming of consciousness. Those who are into tantra, learn their ‘mantras’ on mahashivratri day. The rituals of shiva Choudas was originated much before the origin of any shiv puja. Shivaist carried out their puja rituals and offered prasadam in order to protect themselves from evil spirits. Some families keep mahashivratri fast and also offer food to their forefathers on this day.

How To Please Lord Shiva – Maha mrityunjaya is believed to be one of the most powerful yagya mentioned in Rig Veda & Shiv Puraan which has the power to bring life back even in a person close to death. The Maha Mrityunjay puja is performed for Lord Shiva to protect the person suffering from the illness or to avoid untimely death/akaal mrityu. Maha mrityunjay on Mahashivratri also protects people from any evil spirit/jadoo tona and from any other eventuality. Special emphasis is attached to the importance of shiva worship during this Jaap Yagya. This is a long procession and a group of Priests/Pandits perform this 125000 Jaap for 15 days to complete and Havan or Homam take place on the last day.

This maha mrityunjay anushtana will start from mahashivratri day and will continue for next 15 days.
Maha Shivaratri Aghor Tantrik Anusthan
Significance of Mahashivratri – On this auspicious night of mahashivratri, extensive prayer is offered to request earnestly lord shiva and goddess parvati to seek their blessings.
